Research is showing our nutrition and certain nutrients in foods can be powerful factors in determining gene expression. That means if our foods can effect the switching off – and switching on – of our genes, then food choices represents a modifiable factor of control.
Our genes are not always our destiny. Many chronic, lifestyle related diseases that have a genetic component to them can be better managed if we understand how to work with our own unique genetic tendencies. So yes, genetic testing maybe worthwhile, because you might be able down-regulate certain disease risks and tendencies by adopting specific lifestyle habits, and certain dietary choices.
